Hello, Blind community, My situation:- Making a move to Sunnyvale in May/June. I am looking for a 2b2b apartment for myself ( as my family is going to visit for at least a month immediately after I move in ). Post that, I will sublease the extra bedroom and share with a roommate. I am not willing to compromise too much on the commute and my office is in Sunnyvale. Is $2500-$3000 a good enough budget for a 2b2b apartment? Just want a reality check about the price range and the kind of apartment I might get with that. As of now, I have only checked out apartments.com/zillow, you know the usual. My requirements are pretty generic: Safe neighborhood, Gated community preferably. Asking here on Blind because people are quite honest and blunt about the reality instead of browsing random forums on the Internet. Current TC: $120K YoE: 2.5 in NYC
2500-3000 wont even get you a decent 1b1b in Sunnyvale. Increase your budget/TC or prepare to commute a whole lot more.
$3500
For $3100, you can get decent 2B2B apartment near Sunnyvale downtown, next to Caltrain Station.
BS - it won’t be “decent”. You perhaps don’t know what decent means.
Well, Microsoft is a decent company. In the end, definition of decent various. Yes, can spend $5.5k in Sunnyvale and still it would be decent for someone and extremely good for someone else.
The commute to Sunnyvale from NSJ isn’t too bad. OP have you looked at the Irvine Company Properties in NSJ?
North San Jose seems like a decent option but not too different in terms of prices though
We are moving to bay area in May too. Dont think we can get anything less than 3500 for 2bed 2 bath.
Yes, that's definitely working against me. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet at least until I get the lay of the land for a year or so
You can but you won't like them
You have 2b2b for ~4000 near Caltrain, for good apartments. Get controlled access and/or a gated community, always.
A friend of mine rented a 2b/1bath on Ponderosa ave for 2550$ in 2018. 980 ft with a garage and a balcony.
You definitely want to be in the 3500-4000 range for 2bd 2bath in Sunnyvale
$3800 for a 2bed 2bath apartment in Sunnyvale that’s highly rated.

I think 2500-3000 for 2b/2ba is low. I'd shoot for 3500. You won't like what you find in the low end of the rental market.
Agreed. Even 3500 is a stretch for a 2br2ba. I'd say lower realistic bound is around 4000.
I see. thank you. I guess I can stretch a bit more. I am just worried about the sublease market if renting around $3500 will attract the spare bedroom once my family goes back
