Renting without roommates in the bay/Manhattan

For you single people in the bay and Manhattan do you rent without roommates? How do you justify paying 3k+ a month for a studio/1BR when you could be saving 1k+ per month by getting roommates?

Quality of life is much better when living alone. No amount of money I save can pay for dealing with other people.

Sometimes privacy is worth more than money.

rent is waste of money. I would live in an RV if someone arranged parking.

I live in the Bay alone and I’m only paying $1850 for rent. You can find lots of places less than $3000.

Oakland?

How? I’m about to start looking for work out there.

You are paid well enough. Saving 12k a year is peanuts.

Well... That is like 20k in pre tax salary... If you fight that hard to get a 10 percent bump to salary... You can achieve the same by getting a room mate :/

Quality of life, dating, and because you can? Interns make 7k a month so everyone can afford at least 3k...

Heard of taxes before? Student loans? Pfft.

Taxes yep, student loans no. Top students usually dont have student loans.

You’re an adult and a man! How can you be one if you live with roommates?

I don’t understand your question.

Manhattan no roommates is easily doable if you are willing to live in a crappier apartment. There's stuff under 2k in midtown if you go west of 8th or east of 3rd. Also Hoboken/Jersey City/LIC are a very short ride away, where either income taxes or rent will easily drop you below the equivalent of 2k in Manhattan. SF seems to have less options for living alone unfortunately. I would say that living alone has it's pluses and minuses, but overall I don't want to go back to having roommates. Whole kitchen to yourself is really nice, it's also really nice being able to leave your s*** out everywhere.

Doesn't living in Hoboken/Jersey City/LIC affect your dating prospects? Most girls in NYC aren't gonna be down to take the PATH or LIRR with you back to your place

Yes... But I've come to see it as a good thing. It's a bit of a personality filter, if someone is very repulsed by the idea of "bridge and tunnel crowd" I consider that a huge red flag. Everyone smart already knows about the tax difference and most not-stuck-up people find it enlightening to learn the path runs 24/7 and I get home in under 30 minutes from wherever. Basically, if you can't understand how I can easily rationalize the minor added inconvenience, I don't think we can get along. Usually, those people are stupid or vain to a fault. If it came down to it I would be willing to call an Uber (or Lyft I guess now, with their CSR promotion), it's only 20 dollars extra. I am much more willing to say pay for a date since I know I have so much extra money.
