Fewer and fewer people choose to own guns. I recently saw that 80% of the legally owned guns are held by just 15% of the population. And that number is shrinking. It may take time, but as gun ownership declines and as concern about gun crime rises it's inevitable that the NRA will lose the ability to influence Congress. I'm not saying it will happen tomorrow. It may take twenty years, but it's coming. Also repeal doesn't mean the end of gun ownership, it just means a transition to sensible policies around gun ownership: gun registration, strict background checks, limits on the size of magazines and the types of guns owned, restrictions on where you can carry a loaded gun (ie, when hunting but not in a city), and so on. Before the crazies here flip out and call me names: I am a gun owner. I grew up in a family that owned guns. I own hunting rifles and guns for target shooting. My guns are never loaded unless they are in my hands in a place I intend to use them. I keep them locked up. I don't fear for my safety and don't own them for self defence. I'm ok with registering my guns and submitting to screening to make sure I'm not likely to murder somebody. I don't need an assault rifle or a large capacity magazine. In fact what I enjoy most is shooting my 22lr bolt action Savage arms. I owned a pistol before but I got bored and sold it, not convinced that anyone needs one. For home defence a regular old shotgun will do and isn't concealable. I'm not sold on concealed carry, I think it creates a shoot first culture of violence. So yes I know about guns and I think there's a reasonable policy out there that supports sport shooting and lets you have a shotgun to defend you home in some remote location. We'll get the usual suspects here saying crazy things like the government will turn into Nazi Germany or stalinist Russia if the 2nd amendment is repealed, but it won't. Democracy will carry on, just with less death.
All I can say is good riddance, can’t wait. 🍆
Dude. They can’t pass budget. What makes you think they will be able to change constitution?
The Constitution has been amended 27 times, and while Trump can't pass a budget, more popular Presidents don't have a problem doing so.
I remember Obama having troubles with budget as well. Maybe President Oprah will do better. Come on dude. Wake up. Gun deaths are pretty trivial issue in US and mostly limited to bad guy on bad guy scenario. Noone will risk political future because of that.
Amen. I hope you're right but I'm not too optimistic. From all the fights, this is the most retarded. People in other countries can still own guns for hunting or target practice, so the entertainment part will likely always be there. But otherwise there should be no reason to use them. Other countries survive well without them and have much better stats than the US to speak for it. But people are freaking selfish and won't care about it until their own kid gets killed.
“Other countries survive well without them and have much better stats than the US” Yes, only if you filter out ones that have worse…
Gun crimes are mostly committed by criminals who own illegal guns Banning guns won’t do shit
Tell me why other countries have much better stats about gun crimes then. Much much better. It's 2 entirely different worlds. Yeah, maybe repealing the 2nd alone won't entirely solve the problem, but it will help. Even if it saves one life, you don't think it's worth it? They will also most likely be more expensive and maybe harder to find. Entire black markets are designed around getting legal guns, removing their signature (or whatever it's called) and selling them illegally. People with money problems also won't be able to just sell it to some random guy for quick money. Legal guns can become illegal by many different ways, and banning them will at least block that.
Canada has 22% gun ownership and has relative to us very low gun crimes You think other countries don’t have guns? They do buddy
Molon labe.
When you can make a gun via a 3D printer or using a pipe and other basic parts from Home Depot, no gun law will solve the problems we see daily. Fix the fucking health system and start teaching kids empathy, and these problems will get better.
Highly unlikely, modern democracies are here to cater to economics and not people.
Why so binary?
There is no way the 2nd will be repealed. It’s more likely that we will see states seceding.
