so i got a wierd ask from the yelp recruiter. “Our engineering team enjoyed meeting you in person. I just heard back from the hiring managers that they would like to move forward and check your references. (Good sign! :)) While this does not necessarily guarantee that we will extend an offer, it is another step in the right direction.” WTF? is this normal or a delay technique?
No chatting with recruiter tomm. Just wanted the community’s view on should I push back or just give a few ref. I can only give folks that worked with me and r no longer in my company. Can’t afford to let my org know that I am looking towards switching jobs.
You could push back and say you’d like to hear offer details before you’re comfortable sharing referrals. (If the offer is not interesting, you don’t want to bother your references) They won’t give you a final offer but should be able to at least share the details of the offer they would give you.
some places insist on reference checks (not background check which is done through 3rd party going over your criminal record and employment history) done before sending out offer.
Tell them Blind said you were good
This is basically an offer pending any red flags that come out of your references. So just make sure to give them contacts of only those people who you know for a fact that won't throw you under the bus.
I told the recruiter to first give me the numbers before I give them references
I started recently. They gave me the paper offer (after negotiating) before asking for references. I think references are required but you can likely move forward with an offer? Or at least in my case I could
Instead of refer me, we should start a reference check system 😂
OP, how long did they take to respond after on site? Tia.
References and them saying they want to make an offer I would say about a week
