Review process at Apple

Is it quarterly or bi-annually or annually? Process for promo, firing, rating etc

Annually though I have heard some teams having mid-year reviews

Annually. Comp increases, rsu refreshes, and bonuses are given in October. Mid-year reviews happen as well for some teams.

Does “given” stand for “communicated” or to “paid”?

Bonuses paid mid-Oct; communicated around end of Sep or early Oct

Firing is generally done through a pip, or a really bad rating usually makes people quit. Rating is 3 categories and 3 ratings each - officially the average is getting a 2 in each category (a 3 is exceeded). A lot of teams however just give everyone exceeded and a 2 means needs improvement. Promos are given during review but it is the same at any company - that conversation with your manager to plan our your Year happens much earlier. Generally annually review but mid years are common in some orgs and as per request in other groups.

>> A lot of teams however just give everyone exceeded and a 2 means needs improvement You might want to verify this. Getting exceeded (9/9) is rare and at that point you’re a rockstar at the top of the bonus scale. I’d say 6/9 is a generally average and puts you on the lower end of bonuses. Below 5, don’t expect any refreshers. They want you gone
