Right time to join Amazon

Recruiter mentioned that to get bonus in 2019 I need to join before mid Jan. Can you give your inputs on the sign up bonus thing and when is the best time to join keeping in mind bonus and performance appraisal timing?

No, join Google or Netflix instead

I didnt need a visa so your situation might be different than mine but as far as I know from my case and all the other people who got hired in the last 2-3 years within the US, you get the hiring bonus regardless. The people I speak of were ProServ, SA or Project Managers. First two years have bonus to make up for the delay in stocks vesting.

There is no annual bonus at Amazon. You can join anytime and leave anytime. No one cares.

You get the bonus regardless. This recruiter is lying to you.

Ask your recruiter to stop smoking pot. S/he is playing you. Don't give in, clearly state they have to wait till you get it approved and signon in absolutely non-negotiable. It's too risky to start working on a receipt. They have no cards to play, just bluffing and being selfish.

The recruiter is talking about salary evaluation after two years. If you join after that date, you will be evaluated on 2021. Otherwise it would happen in 2020.

AMZN doesn’t do review bonuses afaik unless they’ve changed that recently.

As per policy, for stock refresh consideration during annual review, you should have join 3rd Monday of Jan or before. So, its right. But usual stock refresh at end of first year is 0 due to various other factors.

Aah! This makes sense. Thanks

I heard (not sure though) 3rd Monday rule is for base salary review consideration, not for stocks refreshers. Usually it's 0 stock refreshers for first year but in case the stocks go down significantly, they may consider to offset the decrease.
