I'm really confused about what to pick for new grad SWE position. Google is an ML focussed SWE position in Ads. What company would provide me the most resume value? What company would provide me fastest career growth? Where should I go in case I care about raising funds for my own startup in the future? Where can I learn the most from the smartest people? fwiw I've interned at Google before. TC: G: 163, R/Q: 200. (Google won't match)
Google knows that your value as an engineer will go up with thier name on your resume. Since it's early in your career start with Google and get a couple of years. Learn from then then see where you go from there. Google has a lot of benefits that you don't see at on the outside. They have great 401k matching and other benefits. In a couple years those offers will be much higher. FYI bonus is not really talked about but if you perform well you can get a big jump in the base. From 15% to 20 or 30% if you do really well.
Thank you for your detailed response! I don't really care about the compensation, I just want fast career growth and surround myself by smart people! Seems like Google will help in that too. Fwiw the 163 tc for G is after including the target bonus.
Why is Google not matching? I thought they always match?
Quora will buy back your options at current valuation.
Seems like the Google brand has really sunk, if people are deciding between them and Quora
Can you describe the position at Quora? We only know the details about the Google position.
no idea, but from what i gather, it's very easy to switch around to do whatever you want
Career growth will be faster at a startup like Robinhood compared to Google. More opportunities for impact.
What is the base/ equity breakdown at Robinhood? Btw I was in a similar situation of choosing between a large, well known company (not google but close enough) and a lesser known startup with quality talent and I chose the startup because I wanted the greater impact and to be in a denser cluster of A+ talent.
Gimme tips bruh!
For me personally, it was quality rather than quantity of LC. Spending 2 hours on solving a hard question was much more formative for me than rushing through 20 questions over the same time. Always be positive, and good things will happen for sure! ♥️
