What are good running shoes for someone that gets plantar fasciitis and heel pain?
Brooks

Brooks turned out to be the best fit for my feet. But do not buy Brooks because I said so. Go to the closest Fleet Feet store, ask them to take measures of your feet and find the best shoes for you. They take measures, watch you run in multiple shoes you try and they suggest, and then you pick the best shoe accordingly. This takes at least half an hour, but it is worth it.
In addition to a good pair of shoes (recommended by others here), I also recommend strengthening your feet, ankles, and legs. What significantly helps reduce my heel pain is stepping on a lacrosse ball and rolling the bottom of my foot over any tight spots unless it feels loose and warm. Practice balancing on one foot while standing on a flat surface, on a pillow or crumbled up shirt or towel, and then a balance board. Foam roll your calves and shins. Take a resistance band and do ankle inversion, aversion, dorsiflextion, and flexion. Do squats, goblet squats, and lunges. This is a brute force method that’s probably overkill for treating even the worst ankle sprain, but doing all of these things helped eliminate all of my foot and ankle pain. At the minimum I recommend using the lacross ball.
Try them out and see what feels best. Ideally you should not feel like you’re wearing a shoe. Brooks worked out best for me. I have slight pronation.
This worked for me - 1) Running on softer ground (Trail/grass/beach) 2) Being lighter (losing wt) 3) Comfortable running shoe with good cushion. Go get properly fitted at a running store 4) Stretching
