So, my per year RSUs has crossed $100k. This is mainly due to a weak manager, good negotiation, performance refreshers and Adobe’s massive stock price increase. Now, I’m planning to change jobs for more pay and due to some location preferences and I see that none of the companies pay $100k RSUs/year for a 3-5 years experienced position. Although, Google and Facebook are some exceptions. But, even in them you get hired at a higher level which I feel is a recipe for failure. Do people usually take a pay cut when their present TC is way more than their experience level when switching jobs? Or can you negotiate and get a better pay somehow? I know some might think that this is not even a problem. So, please answer only if you have something valuable to offer. A lot of people go through similar problems.
I have taken pay cuts but only when moving from a big co to a startup. If you don’t HAVE to move you can always negotiate hard. Remember: the person who can walk from the deal ALWAYS has the upper hand.
Get your future RSUs matched with any new offer at least.
If you can learn more and be challenged with your new job, pay cut will be temporary. I would have been in much worse situation if I had stayed in my better paying job.

Depends on where are you are in your career? Are you trying to learn or earn. Optimizing for both is possible but hard. If you're in learn mode, don't worry about today's dollars. Set yourself up for tomorrow. If you have a decade+ experience and are in earn mode then push for TC increase. Fwiw, I've taken pay cuts twice in my career and my career arc has been up and to the right.
