SDE at Uber vs Salesforce vs Amazon

Posting on behalf of a friend. Confused on deciding which offer to pick. Experience: I have 1 year of experience in the US working at a blockchain startup. Also around 2.5 years of experience in India before I came to US for my Masters. Offers: Amazon: base 120k + 60k bonus + 61 stocks Uber: base 115k + 2500 stocks (I feel they are lowbaling me big time inspite of me letting them know about my Amazon offer) Salesforce: yet to receive numbers but the recruiter said they would match Amazon's offer I had pretty much made my mind to pick Uber but after hearing the numbers I am in two minds now. I feel Uber will have better learning opportunities but am not sure if it is smart to take a hit of about 60K on the TC.

It would be Amazon/Salesforce (if they match Amazon numbers).

60k is annual bonus or sign on bonus? Also how are the Stocks split - 95k*4 == 380k Stocks over 4 years? Amazon and Salesforce what is the position? If you are talking about lab126 that is a completely different story..

DigitalOcean bisou Feb 9, 2019

Why’s that - about Lab126?

BlackRock RockCode OP Feb 9, 2019

60 k bonus is split annually over 2 years. 35 k in 1st year and 25k in year 2. Position is Software Engineer level 1 at all the companies. Amazon position is in Seattle whereas for Salesforce and Uber it’s in SF

Can you try to re-negotiate with Amazon? If I had to choose, id meet for coffee with both managers with Amazon and Uber and pick based off of fit/interesting work. Btw, I'm a huge fan of Uber.

BlackRock RockCode OP Feb 9, 2019

I did talk to both the managers over phone and based on that I felt the work at Uber was more interesting and challenging. Also, are you saying amazon offers better than what they already did?

Amazon ConorMcGre Feb 9, 2019

Well I'm working in the Bay, and my offer was a bit higher than yours. I got 125 base/120 stock/45-35 bonus. I had a competing offer too. I'd choose Uber if the work is more interesting then.

Seattle is a lot cheaper to live in so keep that in mind too. Salesforce matching Amazon means Amazon is the better chance financially. Uber offering even less and in a higher cost of living area is a big difference

Keep in mind that Uber will have some target bonus + refreshers, which you don’t usually get at Amazon. Not really sure about bonus and RSU refreshers at Salesforce tho.

Salesforce offer is less than what new grads make. Complete lowball if in SF.

Uber.
