Almost 2 YOE Base - 115k Year 1 bonus - 25k Year 2 bonus 20k Stocks 50 RSU Can I negotiate more? Or not? Currently at around 140k base at IBM but no other perks. Any suggestions appreciated. Edit: By low balled I mean in terms of TC , and not the SDE I role itself.
We’re hiring SDE II and we’re not even looking at anybody with less than 3 yoe.
Amazon Seattle or Amazon Bay Area?
Did you tell them your current comp?
Don’t even try that. They would say “oh that’s just base, you don’t have any stocks/sign on/bonus…”.
Yes I did. I was told you're moving to Seattle and it's cheaper than bay area. I'm waiting on the official numbers as recruiter is trying to get them up from what I'm been told
In Seattle for less than 2 years? No. For Amazon? Maybe?
“Thank you for the offer but I cannot accept those terms. Based on my research and current offers, to accept the compensation would have to be 158k per year.. (pause and listen)” They will try to say no.. blah blah. “You know my number, can you go see if this can work? Otherwise, and it’s unfortunate, but I would have to walk away.”
I guess for u easily they can give 130-135 base , and more bonus at least even at sde1, if not sde2
Depending on your work experience in IBM, you might be seen as an early SDE1. Hence, the low base. If you were very close to being an SDE2, they could have offered 130. It may not be a bad thing for you as it gives you room to grow. However, if you feel that you have relevant experience and are close to being an SDE2, then do not take this offer
Room to grow is such a bullshit thing recruiter tell candidates. I’d rather get top of band and no raises until promotion than middle of the band with small raises until promotion.
If he's close to SDE2, he should reject and join a year later as L5. The promo process in Amazon is shit and you don't want to get stuck in that if you feel you're nearly there. I personally feel that joining Amazon as an SDE1 with 2 years of experience is a bad idea. People get promoted to SDE2s in the same time. OP could be stuck at L4 for another 2 years. But it's worth it if his work at IBM is sh*t
Can we talk about how IBM is 140k base for 2 YOE
SDE I has a big range and since you have only nearly 2 Yoe, the offer is not that low. I saw SDE I had TC of 150k or more but that depends on their yoe and interview performance. You can ignore this offer if you think it is low.

I’m Sooo Happy about Biden signing TikTok ban bill today!!
Low. You could have easily got sde2
They said for SDE II they ask for at least 4 YOE. Is there something I should negotiate more? I was thinking get more in the base pay? Or Stick with the current company
It looks like a low sde1 offer itself
