Hey all,

Will be getting an offer from Microsoft in Vancouver this week for SDE2. It'll probably be L61 because the recruiter insisted levels are internal matters, which she wouldn't say if it were L62 lol.

There are very few data points for MSFT in Vancouver online so can someone tell me what my expectations should be?

Also finished my interview at Amazon in Canada on Friday and expect an offer but it'll take some time to go through the approval process.

Yeah 25K is signing and target is 10% annual reward bonus. This was for a remote team maybe that's why you feel it's high..

What? I'm 61 with a remote team and receive 105k-ish base salary

Actually what's your education level, maybe that matters coz everyone from whom I asked in my team had phd

it's kind of the standard base salary for new grads (bachelor's/masters only) in vancouver.

I did receive 130k in USD stocks but they wouldn't change the base salary because it was based on the "market"

I sure will once I get the offer. And of any improvements if it seems like it's worth negotiating and not a lowball. 👍

Do you know what the band ranges are @pencileveryone?

Or how easy is it to push for L62 over L61?

You would also get $12k stocks (vested over 4 years) along with your 10 percent bonus every year.

Hmm English bay, Stanley Park, Yaletown and Olympic village are typically where I spent my weekends. I used to live on W Georgia a couple blocks from Granville so food wise I mostly went there and Robson square.

Will you be working with an embedded or remote team in Vancouver? That's something to take into account for career progression / travel etc..

It's not remote and I think there are good career prospects available.

Though personally, I found Vancouver to be a letdown compared to Toronto (apart from outdoors activities): no life in the city after 11pm, no Uber, lower salaries, more expensive housing, less food choices, a lot more drug usage it appeared (not talking about pot).

But career wise, I think this would a good place for me to contribute and to grow.

I'm not sure where you are going at 11pm and claim it's dead, but totally agree on the rest 😅

Everywhere man, everywhere. I was out at 11pm and the only restaurant I found open was McDonald's.

What are some of your favorite hangout spots in the city (excluding bars)?
