What does a day to day work of SDE with 4-7 yoe look like in the companies like FANG, Uber, Lyft, Linkedin, Airbnb, Micrsoft etc? YOE-5 TC-60/hr - 0 benefit Loc-NorthEast
Meetings. 1:1 with peer. Code review. Design discussions.
When I was at FANG half my day was spent in meetings, a quarter doing code review and more meetings, and a quarter actually doing work.
How is two sigma
If I was happy staying an L5 forever then the workload would be quite manageable and not so different to other companies. Design, code, review, a few meeting here and there. The stakes are much higher so you definitely need to be much more careful and a screw up can be massive. If you want a promotion however it's a different story. Much more design and architecture, and proactively tackle big stinky problems that no one else wants to touch. Also mistakes are bigger and more visible.
Check last night's regression result, pull code to see if something broke my code, write test cases, write code, code reviews, brain storming and discussions, meetings, etc.
