SDM in Amazon, TC - 475k approx. I have an opportunity to take up a new role of managing SAs and TPMs in AWS. Not so much personal travel (team will be traveling) and no on calls for my team, Coes etc. Any idea on comp structure for L6 & L7 SA/TPM managers and how is this career path compared to engineering manager one?
Did you do the switch?
How’d it go?
Hey the stress levels would be definitely less, you get more time for yourself and family. All the SA's are self managed pretty much. You might not find engineering and very fast paced culture and firefighting etc. here but still it's fast and things get done. You will have less customer facing stuff, except you join a meeting or two when your SA is doing a big initiative. Things are measured in initiatives. You spend lot of time in org hiring and other stuff and one on ones with your SA's than managing people.
