Turning 26 next year and I'll be moving to California as a new grad. Male, single, ready to turn the f up. The problem is, the office is located in downtown Palo Alto and I hate long commutes. Is it still best to live in the city if I want to have a social life? I like going out and enjoying night life. Any advice? I also have a car right now but planning to sell it and ride CalTrain. Korean btw - which place has a bigger Korean community?
SF. I’m moving to the city after living in San Jose for 2 years. 27, single and not ready for shingles
The Caltrain commute isn’t that bad mentally compared to commuting via car but it’s still around 3 hours of your day gone each day It also makes it harder to go out with co workers or do after work events unless you Uber back home
Why you want to live in the city when Palo Alto is nice? If you read other threads here lots of ppl hate the city
I heard there's a lot more to do - events, etc
Then maybe live in the city and commute or, find a job there. Too many companies in there.
Palo Alto is actually pretty nice
could you elaborate? I want to be able to go out and mingle with other young professionals
University Ave and California Ave are the main attractions. Stanford and all the startup millennial crowd. You can’t beat SF obviously in terms of nighlife but either you can live near the SF caltrain station and board the bullets or just live in Palo Alto. For south bay, Palo Alto downtown or SJ downtown are the best in terms of nightlife.
Go to nyc
I would love to in the near future
Mate if you're young and single now is the time to move there not in the future.
If you live in Palo Alto you will need a car. Not for commute- but for everything else.
San Mateo would be perfect for you. Check out that downtown once.
will do! could you explain which aspect would be perfect?
Caltrain + nightlife + reasonable rent as compared to SF/Palo Alto + decent commute + lots of Asian restaurants
Bay Area Turning up Pick one.
I live above a bar in SF. I wish I could turn them down right now.
Santa Clara has a lot of Koreans. If you’re looking for more East Asians to turn up with, then I’d suggest SF
Do the commute for a year, SF is better for first year. You will then know for yourself.
