I am a Data Analyst with about 2 years of SQL programming skill in Oracle and SQL server. Been looking for about 6 months but haven't had any lucks. Is SQL skill still demanding and what kind of role or company is hiring?
I'm using SQL and Excel for data extraction and reporting purposes, non procedural or data warehousing related which is where I'm trying to get to. Many Data Analyst jobs now are also looking for Python , R, Tableau skills so I'm wondering if SQL and Excel are enough to get there
you need programming exp. as well. Python,R,js
Agreed..heard Python is currently HOT demand but what job usually use this? How can I start learning it?
SQL jobs are everywhere. Learn Python and make yourself more valuable. Learn Redshift, too.
Agreed. Any opening at Amazon that offer to train these skills? :)
Become a bonafide DBA, learn pl/sql, optimization (at the DB level and OS level), security, clustering, sharding, table spaces, overriding operators and types, json in the db (mixing sql/nosql), proper use of indexing layers, storage engines, GIS and temporal data, and so on. You’ll be in high demand. Guaranteed.
These are all nice to learn but how if I don't have the tools or resources? Without an opportunity with a company that offer such training, how can anyone learn all these skills by himself? Be realistic...
I have been looking at several free tutorials online but they all seem basis. They also have some practice exercises but I'm finding it hard to learn this way. Like SQL I learned it from work and became good at it today because there are databases, tools and real case scenarios that I can practice and resolve. So without such resources or opportunities to work for a company having these tools is tough but not possible
sql is a huge skill set if you want to do anything related to analytics. Just make sure you also know WHY you are also pulling that data.
SQL is my expertise and I'm good at it but haven't found any lucks with analytics. Any hiring at FB? :)

SQL is not programming (like excel is not programming)
I know just using the general term loosely, However this is irrelevant to my question
do you have advanced sql/SQL server experience, data warehouse and erp system and excel skill?
