SWE-SRE for DevOps engineers?

Is there a sense to try to get into SWE-SRE(NG) or Production Engineer(at Facebook) without experience in pure Software development?
I mean, I love and can solve algo challenges at Leetcode, write some python scripts for automation everyday routines, but I don't have any experience in Object-Oriented coding or software architecting? I'm more ops-person(k8s, clouds, Linux, HA services, ci/cd, a bit networks, etc.) than swe, but don't want to get stuck here.
So, should I make downgrade in salary and get a junior developer job before to fit these roles?

@chiller is probably full of sh*t.. PE/Sre are respectable and good role and the demand is increasing..imo I think sre is a good stepping stone into swe role about 70% coding and 30%..

      1) I guarantee you I’ve accomplished more at Cisco than 3/4 of this community has at their job. Not that that matters for this convo but I’d like to use it as a point of rhetoric.

      2) stop acting like you’re in a FANG and shitting on Cisco. If you were a competent SRE (you’re probably a sysadmin) you’d know how cutting edge Cisco is.

      3) I didn’t say they’re not important. I said *comparitively* they’re not as important.

      4) I’m literally offering help to people in the FB PE process. Yes, I was rejected, for *hiring freeze* reasons.

      5) wtf are you doing talking shit to someone at 12:30 on a Wednesday. Go do leetcode because god knows you need it.

Sure I have. I can’t argue with a shithead who thinks they are better than a community of talented engineers. Bdw I’m working at a FANG, doing exactly that job, just so you know!

@chiller feel free to enlighten us why is that. I see more demand and more salary towards these jobs than Dev / Data roles in general.

See my comment below. Any good dev/infra person should know DevOps.
