similar TC ~120k CS degree, 0 yoe Startup seems like I'd be more interested in the work and culture. American Express seems like better resume booster. Also, how easy would it be able to switch from backend to front end role or vice versa at Amex? edit: startup is about 2 years old and well funded. has about 10 engineers, 50 employees and growing also, planning on leaving after a year or two max
Since you have just started, I would say join Amex for 1-2 years. I'm sure you won't like it. Dip after and join/start a startup. This will help with credibility and also give you some necessary software development experience.
Save as much as possible so you have runway when working/creating a startup since it doesn't pay much initially
Why don't you think I'll like Amex? Seems like no one works too hard there..
Go for startup assuming it is decently funded. You will learn much more and have better options afterwards
Really? I thought having the bigger name on my resume would get me better options when I leave in a year or two
Amex isn't really a big name in tech. What time are you gonna be on? I would assume a lot of legacy stuff...
Amex and FANG and startup
My first job was a startup. I hated it.
American Express
Don't do startup, they work you to death.
Startup is options or rsu?
Start up, you are young, it's time to take risks... you can join amex later in your career. Also think about the field, amex is financial institution, what's the start up into?
Join amex for no work and decent pay. Lotta boomers ready to retire with a couple million in their 401ks.

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
I’d say join Amex, stay for a year or two while you get a taste of how they do software engineering and leetcode, then dip to maximize TC.
