I have ADHD, the non-hyperactive/no-focus kind, so I take Vyvanse on workdays only. Without ADHD meds, I’d never be able to focus long enough to even finish a commit message. Am I alone?
Ginseng works for me
Btw, non-hyperactive ADHD is just ADD...
Technically, there’s no such thing as “just ADD” anymore. It’s all ADHD, just a different spectrum. Like Asperger’s syndrome is now “Autism”, just different on the spectrum.
I scored on a preliminary test which says i may have Asperger's.
I’m envious of all you people without ADHD and still doing SWE. I’ve considered switching careers because, if I can’t do my job without medication, can I really do my job? Or am I just faking it?
Would you say the same about a diabetic that needed insulin? You have a medical issue that you effectively treat with medication. Nothing wrong with that
That’s a wise way to look at it. Thank you.
For me coding is fun and I can do it easily naturally. For things like writing docs or making presentations it helps to have medication. Same if I need to sit in a classroom environment. (College was very difficult for me) I also use medication to get household chores done. I really struggle with that on my own..
Great mental strength there. I guess I don’t get bored when enjoying things either... maybe I just need to practice mindful enjoyment of my daily work duties. I honestly do love my job.
High TC keeps me concentrated. When it's low all I think is how do I increase my TC instead of the task
I can understand that sentiment. I don’t really find TC makes me happy or motivated. The only way I feel “successful” is by feeling meaning in my job. I usually accomplish this by taking time to have affirming conversation with my coworkers and trying to help coworkers success / feel valued.
Your body is addicted as intended by big pharmaceutical companies. Breath into your spirituality.
I practice mindfulness and meditate as well. I’ve tried going without it as I don’t like the side effects it makes me feel aside from focused. Meditation works intermittently for me.
I don’t think I have ADHD and have never been diagnosed .... but I use headphones to help me concentrate... cause people chatting around me is too annoying
