Hi folks, I was wondering how do salaries in Canada(Vancouver) compare to salaries in Seattle. Asking for a Software Engineer role(SE 1 or SE 2 level roles in companies like Microsoft or Amazon) Base : 115k USD, Stock: 22k
They don’t compare
1/2?
Have you seen those waterfront condos in Vancouver? You’ll never afford them on a dev’s tc.
😓
At least 30% less in Canada, if you adjust it for buying power you will be making around 50% less
The only way to make the transition without losing tc is to work for Google. Get an L4 or l5 offer and pull a hard bargain.
Too bad no google office in Vancouver or Toronto
Waterloo. 45 min from Toronto.
It’s less
It's 40% of what ever you get in Seattle
Ssalaries are 30% to 50% less in Canada and then they are in CAD. Before taxes and before buying power adjustments. For instance if your TC in Seattle is 240k USD if you move to Vancouver in the best case before tax it would be around 168k CAD. And the Federal + BC provincial taxes are higher than US Federal taxes + no Washington state income tax. In WA your net after tax income is: 179k.USD In BC your net after tax income is: 113k CAD Lastly you need to be mindful of buying-power in BC is at least 15% less than it is in WA. This reduction in buying power can be as high as 37% in some areas of Vancouver. Based on a 15% figure only, your 113k CAD in reality will be 97k CAD.
