Yeah, most companies worth working for have a decent goals-tracking and review process, so if you deserve a raise, it will happen.

The best way to get a raise is to leave your job and ask for a higher one at a new company and keep pushing it.

Cerner vPKu61 Jul 14, 2017

Every substantial raise I've gotten happened because I left for greener pastures. I've doubled my income in 7 years.

Yeah, I see HUGE income gains by changing jobs every year or two.

Udacity trstn Jul 13, 2017

At least once every year, at least 10% more, if you can't get leave and go somewhere else they will give it to you

I wouldn't expect a raise to be more than 10-15% if you just ask. If you like where you work and want more than that, get other offers, (actual offers), bring them with you when you ask for a raise. Explain that you like the company and the job but you'd like more money and the market is willing to pay you <whatever offer amount is> and show them the offer. They'll either match it or come close and you get more money, or you quit and take the other offer you have for more money. Win win for you.

My collegue asked our boss yesterday for a raise with me in the room. It was awkward af. I get pretty good pay so I don't really as questions.. I have a very fair boss who recognizes talent and rewards accordingly. If I were in a different situation I'd ask but I've never had to.

A few people are saying simply leave your job. If you like what you do, then don't make a scene trying to get higher pay. Just ask and of they say no then go from there. Remember that team fit is important. If you get a 5-10k raise but are working on a mediocre team.. was it really worth it?

only ask if you get accepted at another job. then you have leverage.

HP 101997 Jul 13, 2017

I think this COMPLETELY depends on where u work. If u work in an established tech company - u can't just "ask" for a raise. It's usually merit raises yearly. Yes u can leave. But that's a sure way to a bad job hoppy resume. 10-15% is not norm unless u are highly valued superstar. Just not a sustainable raise every year.

todays market, no one gives a shit about job hopping, if you have some minimal talent and skill. you can always find a reason to satisfy the HR lady why you quit ( too long commute, project closed, company with no prospect bla bla bla) it can only change if the market stalls...

Actually not true. We care. Trust me

For me, Typical process is to explain how my contributions have increased users and improved profit. I am thanked and told I am "key to company success, but unfortunately....." so I begin searching and quit. Repeat.
