Salary Negotiation

How one should negotiate compensation with employer? Most time I either got trapped in by a lie told by recruiter/hr or some statement that:"this is the best we can do, and you decide what to do" I need a help to improve these skills, it would be helpful for the next newbie as well, so please provide/share your experiences/facts/failures (facts would be more appreciated). Please put the reasoning behind any winning Negotiation to tell why it was a win for you and I and others take away the crucial point to be used or not to used during Negotiation period! Thanks

Read and reread the offer negotiation blog by the Airbnb guy.

Hey, can you please share the link you are talking about?

Google Airbnb offer negotiation, I doubled my TC with it.

There are a million resources online about this. My best tip is to negotiate TC — how they arrange RSU vs salary is not really a concern within reason and it gives the recruiter more flexibility

Thanks, yeah that's the reason there is lots of blog and in reality very few works! Past incident: I asked recruiter once to focus on base salary and then try to accommodate in RSUs to match currently offered base. I got $3k additional to base and then reply that it's the best! Few more times happened the same.

Tell them you have a magic bag 💼 and can summon a genie 🧞‍♀️ to code for you. Make them laugh and jibe with your HM, the salary will go up. Of course having a high base and competing offers is your best negotiation chip. Make an unreasonable demand and you just may sour the punch bowl. Negotiation is an art and it starts with chips on the table and an interpersonal connection.

1) Ask for exactly the amount you want. 2) Walk away if they won't. It can be a lot more nuanced than that but it takes a lot more subtlety and soft skills. Stick with those basics for now.

I am so glad that I did not quote a number. The final offers were well beyond anything I thought possible.

That works for people who can keep a stone cold poker face and control the tone of communication. For people who are just trying not to get lowballed, refusing to quote is a great way to get lowballed.

Biggest key to negotation is you willing to walk away. I actually rejected my initial low bullshit offer . They came back later with a 25% increase. That is probably how you can substantially move the needle.

That is the only way I got the amount I wanted. The key to winning my negotiation is that I did walk away the first time.

This is the key. Explain that you would really like the job - they need to know you are enthusiastic, but state that you need X and can’t do any less (if you know it is within reason and not a ridiculous request). I rejected 2 offers from FANG companies and they came back with 2x the equity that they initially offered me.

Walmart.com BOLP44 OP Aug 25, 2018

One of the time Employer said: "director of your team asking why do you need that? "I replied back i already had more base offerred from other companies but they did not listen'! Also I made blunder saying I tried verifying numbers with friends and it seems to be low. They said it's unethical and bla bla and did not get any better numbers.

You need to read some negotiation articles!

Multiple offers is the key

Will it works if u accept offer from some company and you get the better offer later? I did not get anything at ABC company while negotiation 2 weeks before joining. At XYZ company, i told about the different offers but they did not consider! Should I try for some more offers and negotiate?
