As a new grad, I have very little exposure to the professional world that is to come. When speaking about salaries, what is the best way to gauge what an adequate salary is? For example, I was recently interviewed for a Loan Officer Associate position in a mortgage company. The starting salary is 45K, I did some light search on similar position and it was about the same. How do I know my value if a possible employer asks what I would like my salary to be? At this point in my career, most sound good. I wouldn’t want to lowball myself
Look up salaries on Glassdoor of people who graduated last year
Ask any upperclassmen that graduated last year to provide you with insight with what offers they fielded etc. numbers you see online can’t be considered too reliable but can be used for a good ballpark in most professions. Try to get them to make a first offer and always counter. Talk numbers with your fellow grads; don’t get butthurt if they are offered 5/10% more than you but know you’re getting fucked over if they are fielding offers 20%+ higher
