I gave interview and recruiter asked for base salary expectation. Unprepared, i gave 20% more than my current base. later i realised that the pay range for that job is atleast 30% more. I dont have an offer yet , but how to i go about handling this if recruiter only gives 20% more ? The cost of living is similar to my current city.
There's nothing you can do besides asking for more during the offer phase. Hopefully you learned your lesson
Get another interview elsewhere and get a firm offer from them. Immediately tell your prospective company that another firm has a competing offer and ask them if they will do 30%.
You only talked about your base. Tell the recruiter that you have high expectations of stock than they normally do. Then agree to juggle the comp to more base when they say they canβt do it.
