Got offers from a few companies I’m looking at moving to. I already turned in notice to current company. I have a 1 week vacation that I had scheduled a long time ago that’s now coming up in Aug (Yes I know; bad timing) However, I wouldn’t even have worked a month at the new job before vacation. I also haven’t accepted any offers yet because I’ve always been told that it doesn’t hurt to negotiate salary. Should I:
Uh yeah, vacation really has no impact here. They won't care if you had a preplanned vacay as long as you tell them and don't mind taking it unpaid.
I wouldn’t even bother suggesting unpaid. I’d just let them know it was preplanned and booked. Typically that’s fine. And usually they will just let you take it paid. I’ve been working 10 years and changed companies 3 times. Each time it just so happened I had upcoming vacation time. None made me take it unpaid. And I negotiated my salary up at each. If they want you to take it unpaid they will let you know. But don’t offer it from the get go. Just let them know it’s coming up and await their response/reaction
You're overthinking it. The recruiter and your future boss know that vacations are planned far in advance, and one week is basically nothing. Tell them you have a vacation planned and ask if it will be an issue (they will say no) and then negotiate as normal.
The offer letter for my top choice stated that PTO starts 90 days after hire date. I’d be leaving for this vacation 22 days after hire.
That's not an issue, just talk to your manager. Take unpaid time off.
