What are salary ranges for software engineer in companies like Booking, Amazon, Uber, Ebay and similar in Amsterdam? Considering moving there from Germany.
Don't, no housing, little social benefits (in case you wanted to start a family) and the food is disgusting.
What do they feed you ovwr there?

If you’re living 150km far away from the nearest Dutch boarder to you (straight line on the map) you’ll get 30% ruling (for 8 years now but they will consider to make it only 5 years, they tried but decided to postpone the decision) Base salary for new hires: ~75k (up to 80k if you do exceptional in the interviews) Bonus: 15% (can get up or down based on ur performance and the company performance) Stocks: around 25k (3 years to vest and 1/3 vest every year)
Try to get offer as senior (do very good in he system design interview and the fit interview) Base: ~95k Bonus: 20% Stocks: idk haven’t had any since promotion
That sounds absurdly low considering the higher taxes. Is it fair to compare this with a 250k TC in the Bay area? Is the cost of living half too?
Don’t take too seriously any advice from Booking developers. These are some of the saltiest mofos you’ll find on Blind.
And who should they ask if they want to know more about working at Booking?
Us, but they should just be aware that they’re going to get biased opinions.
We pay pretty well, compared to Europe and definitely compared to Amsterdam. TC for L4 is around €120K, for L5, around €170K. You can see details for a recent L5 here: “Underleveled at Google or overleveled at Lyft? (Compensation)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/mj34ym5o TC assumes a $70B valuation. The press is talking about a $120B IPO which could rocket those figures to somewhere like €145K & €200K due to the stock components. (Of course with a lower than $70B IPO, the same true the other direction). You get the 30% ruling for 5 years if you’ve not lived 150km within the border before.
So you have a fixed predefined amount of RSU in a work contract?
Yes! You get RSUs issued when you join, using the given 409a valuation (which values Uber a “bit” lower than what the media is speculating for IPO value). This is the risk/reward joining a pre-IPO company. Soon we’ll be post-IPO and the potential upside will be different.
What about other companies in Amsterdam? How do they compare in salaries with Booking and Uber?
Most pay less
What about Adyen, IMC ?
There is Amazon office in AMS, you might just consider moving there. Also avoid B.com at all costs. Thats travel company, not tech company despite anything they say.

Why move? Taxes in NL will eat all your salary. In B for a backend eng you can get up to 80k€
In Germany taxes are not better. Is 80k just base or total compensation?
II don’t really know what is TC in your understanding. 80k = salary + holiday allowance. There is also (not guaranteed) yearly bonus and stocks + other perks.
