Sales Engineer

I got a sales engineer job offer. However, I am a dev by trade. Anything I should be wary of by switching?

You might realize that you enjoy it more.

You might hate it too! Too much travel, deals taking too long, no immediate satisfaction - it all depends on wher you are selling! I would keep an option to go back to dev at lest until you are sure!

Sales is a profit center. They can afford to pay you more and from my experience you get 100x more freedom. And you get to meet so many new people. If you like growing your network and nurturing your presentation powers, it’s great.

Is it easy to make the jump?

Depends on product and team.

I was no developer, but I went from R&D to a pre-sales product consultant job. I was worried about it, and it turned out to be an AMAZING job. Fun, travel, new folks to talk to, less stress, etc. Are you a people person?

Citibank Tinycake Feb 7, 2018

Yea definitely I love people. I kinda thrive on social contact

Sales engineer is SALES. Not engineering. Geeks fail at sales. Too passive and reactive. Successful salespersons are leaders. Not geeks
