Depends on the space. Security SE’s are pulling in it nicely, 200k+ OTE. SE’s don’t get any RSU’s, unless you’re a good negotiator. One thing to keep in mind, it all depends on you’re geographical region and rep(s) you’re tied to.

I know SEs in silicon valley pulling 285k OTE 15+ yoe; but no stock & sh*tty security company. Cisco, ~2 years ago I knew folks doing 210k OTE with 10+ yoe. VMware can pay just stupid $$, 240k+ decent stock OTE. Don't recall how good the multipliers were for these. SEs & sales managers don't usually get paid in rsu/stock like FANG, from what I can tell. It's all about the upside, so it's all about bringing in more sales so the stock is worth more after your 4 years. I remember being confused after my 1st RSUs vested at google. First time I had them sold immediately on vest! I like to defer my gains, if I can, and control the tax hit. But no, looks like I get no break on AMT this year :/

Doing all the crap nobody else wants to do and getting paid less to do it.
Was an SE making $230 there. They can afford to pay out more than $125/$155 OTE. Don’t ever settle for a package like that. Especially if you are familiar with the product. If you’re coming in fresh with no experience with the products then you have a 8 to 12 month ramp up time before you’re able to stand up on your own. The products are great but there’s a lot of moving parts.

Biggest issue is that with everyone moving to cloud, VPN isn’t a growth market. The NAC product is solid but NAC is a tough sell with a long sales cycle.

I enjoyed my time there but they don’t have a good long term strategy. They don’t understand central management which customers really want. They think Dev Ops is the right way.

They picked up Brocade’s application delivery controller which is a solid product but it’s a difficult sale against F5, Citrix Netscaler, and A10 Networks. Amazing solution though.

OTE - on target earnings , basically salary + commission and/or bonus when reaching 100% quota of sales target
