Please evaluate this offer for Samsung: Sr. Engineer (software): Base: $135,000 15% bonus Sign on Bonus: 40 k paid in 3 years I have competing offers. Which component here is easier to negotiate. Can I ask for 160k base? Salary look lower than Qualcomm. With similar salary which is better Qcom Vs Samsung. Any good benefits at Samsung than are not at Qualcomm.
Where is this offer? For Seattle or Bay area this looks awful for senior level.
I would go with Samsung, As you said negotiate base pay and sign on bonus
What is your Qualcomm offer ?
Apart from salary, you need to consider other factors if you plan to join Samsung. Most of the decisions are made in Korea and teams here have very little influence on those decisions. Most of the specs are in Korean or poorly translated to English. This is what I heard from my colleagues who came from Samsung FW team. Things may be different in your team or would have changed.
If it is Bay Area don’t take it. Ok for Austin and San Diego. You can ask for more joining bonus as they don’t give RSU.
You can ask for 20% bonus and negotiate base to 150k.. Subsidized food and employee purchase program are only the notable items.
Poor offer IMO. You can ask for 160K base, and reduce 3yr period on retention to 2. If you feel comfortable, ask for retention bonus! They give in this competitive market. Good luck!
@JustFlyHig, thanks for suggestions. Do you have any script for help in negotiations. Is samsung like Qualcomm and do not negotiate much? Actually, I work in machine learning software and this skill is too much in demand and hence retention bonus makes sense. I am not sure though, how to ask for it. I asked for 225$ TC including base, RSU and sign-on. She came up adding bonus and all shits to make it up for 185k. How to negotiate in good terms. Does delayed (24 hours) reply to emails make me better in position to negotiate.
Seems like youve gained overall ~16.5K with your preliminary negotiation. I don't think it would be bad to mention your skills are in high demand and due to that it would make more sense for Samsung to throw some retention bonus to sweeten the pot. If you've competing offer, use that to your bargaining advantage. I want to add a dimension: Samsung is controlled by very engineering mindset mothership located in KR and I don't know how much of your skills would be appreciated at Samsung. Delayed response is always best, sleep over your thoughts but be firm with your ask and be prepared to walk away if necessary.
What level? We have salary ranges per level. Correct that there are no RSUs as Samsung doesn’t trade in US. They try to make up for that with bonus which % goes up with level and can also go over 15 with good performance reviews
Sounds like S3 if it is only 15% bonus.
If you don't mention location then this post makes zero sense to anyone.
Rsu and yoe ?
No RSU. 5 yoe
