I lived in San Diego for a long time and miss it. Looking to go back, but also looking to avoid the same defense industry employers that a lot of tech people end up working for down there if possible. Anyone have suggestions for good employers in SD? I know about Intuit and Qualcomm, but I’ve heard conflicting things about them and that they’re lay-off prone.
Qualcomm laid off a bunch of people recently.

Can you please share what is wrong working for defense industry? Thanks
Generally work with lower quality talent, good ol boys club, infested with boomers that think everyone should show up at the office at 8 and leave at 6 or 7, don't expect to get promoted often unless you are white, male and are willing to wear slacks and a button down every day to work.
Had to pull out the race card huh, weakPtr. Classy. Clearly the butt hurt runs strong in you.
I’ve heard Walmart Labs is setting up shop down there
Qualcomm, Intuit, Intel, Teradata, ServiceNow, google has started hiring developers too
Google, Amazon, service now, illumina, Walmart labs... Intuit is over rated. Qualcomm but they have layoffs all the time...
Do NOT work for Qualcomm they have been laying off people steadily for 5 years, every few months, their stock is dead in the water, they pay a very low salary, and the place is all politics and very little actual tech goes on there, the execs are greedy clowns, and the only heavy lifting is in QCT embedded teams and the 4G/5G teams of Corp R&D. At least 50% of gross income is wasted. I worked there 12 years until it exploded. Most of the Chip Design is in Santa Clara. ServiceNow is an excellent San Diego-founded company (originally founded by Peregrine Systems founders) the present CEO is from Bay Area so he moved HQ up to bay area but it's really san diego, and the stock is ON FIRE. There are also the medical device companies. San Diego has the benefit that not every person in San Diego is an engineer earning $250k+. You can have a happy life in San Diego on $160K.
I heard good things about intuit
