We are considering moving to Seattle and debating if we should live on the east side or the city. Are the schools in above areas true to their rankings on greatschools? Asking as everyone seems to recommed Bellevue or Issaquah which are long commute times for me.
Also how would you rate schools in Kirkland, Kenmore and Bothell?
Not as high. Kirkland might be ok. School quality is largely a function of funding, and funding is a function of aggregate TC. Mercer Island / Bellevue has higher aggregate TC (hence more Asian). Seattle-side has a lot of old money (hence more white). Kenmore/Bothell are on the outskirts of the city and hence are less rich. A good teacher is priceless but funding helps with a lot of other things: resources, excursions, connections
Seattle-side is more white and east side is more asian (south + east). It’s true that east side public schools are slightly more reputable. There are a bunch of good private schools on the Seattle side. In either case you’ll have competition. Greatschools rankings are not the most accurate though.
Thank you
