Department reorganized. My teams got caught up and I lost half my team (Eng Manager). Not very happy and seems like big setback for promo. Should I look for another team? Should I leave google? I was on path to director at previous company now I feel like this was a big mistake. I have an interview with FB, should I go for it, change teams, or stay put?
What is scope ?
Were you able to handle the larger scope? Is it that you get to focus better on stuff that matters?
Same happened with me at Microsoft, I’m looking for job. Nobody gives shift about you have delivered in the past.
I’m gonna take the opposite approach here. I had a huge team which I actively managed to make smaller so I could focus on what I wanted to do and not waste my time on low impact work. It’s worked out very well for me.
That’s unusual for c1
Yes leave
Yes, you are now transitioning into "redundant overhead" territory.
I would go interview at FB and shop around. At least you can look and shop while still working. Life is too short to be unhappy!
Leave is you aren’t respected and rewarded. It happens to the best of us at some point.
It doesn’t happen to best at such low level on the ladder
If op is L7 that’s not low level at all. Directors (L8) at google have 100 people under them.
