So I got a great offer from a company in CA and am looking to relocate. My wife wants to look at the area before we accept an offer, since our life is in Seattle. Has anyone tried asking for this arrangement prior to acceptance? The relocation package is nice, but that's generally for me to accept and fly out. This would, ideally, occur before that. I think it sounds reasonable as a non-compensation benefit, especially given how much they already spent flying me out for interviews... Any advice or wisdom would be appreciated!
I would take the lumpsum option in the relocation package
Lol, yeah. That option seemed better.
Talk to the recruiter. I got a few weekends scouting places before moving to Bay area. This was before accepting an offer. Completely normal if you have family. It's a big move. Just tell them the situation.
Makes sense! Thank you :)
Just check Zillow and Craigslist to get pricing info. Bay or socal? What city would you be working in?
LA. Already have a feel for prices, just want to see neighborhoods.
Depends on company. Some places won't give you extra time for searches sadly.
Microsoft covered 3 day housing hunting trip plus one day with real estate agent to look for apartments. This was a part of relocation package, but I had to sign an offer first.
Realtor eh? That's interesting. I'll ask if they have a connection for one as well, as that would be helpful.
