Screwed

I am currently working at Microsoft (Level 60) for about a year (total 3 yoe). On one year review my manager told me to start looking opportunities outside MS and I have around 3 months. I cleared interviews at google but I am stuck at Team matching and I am not sure if I can make it in time (get a job offer from them before getting fired). I can't ask HR to hurry as I did not get any other offer yet. I am currently on H1B, I do have good problem solving skills but I have worked in different fields and find it hard to clear knowledge based interviews. One of the Uber recruiter is/was going to setup interview this week but looking at news I am not sure now. What are my options?

Details: My first 6 month connect had insufficient results marked, I didn't realize what it was then. The connect had negative comments but my Manager told me it happens being new hire and new to web when I tried to explain anything. I lacked communication during 1on1s throughout the year. It has been two months since my yearly review now, but there is reorganization going on so in recent 1on1 my manger said I will have a month extra, may be.

My performance has been low for few reasons that I concluded
1. I never liked working in front end
2. I did not take my job as new job (I wasn't focused, hard working)
3. I think my Manager expects a little more than supposedly from Level 60 (I work in team majorly consisting of Senior and Principal SEs)
4. My communication sucks

There might be few other reasons. I am going to work on myself to not face this again.

Yes, HC decides whether you cleared interviews or not. If HC is yet to happen, you are just at the stage where you gave interviews.
Though, only realistic candidates are sent to HC, so that means u atleast didnt do badly in interviews

@blindv I do not have offer and I didn't say I have one.

I received email from recruiter that, they have a great news and are moving forward to Team matching. After that recruiter said they are doing HC in parallel.

@grx Thanks for the info. Should I ask HR how I did in interviews?

HR wont tell u. Maybe on phone call they can give a generic word, like u did great, good, average etc, not more.
But team matching and HC going on seems like u hv good chances!

@tech29 sorry, my bad. I had misread your original post. Given the HR feedback, I think it's looking good, but you are not in safe zone yet. Fingers crossed. Good luck!

DM for referral at Oracle. You could switch to Google when your team matching is done.

Before you or others complain about Oracle, something is better than nothing. Plus Oracle is not a bad tech company either.

Although in complete honesty, I am leaving the firm soon. So in the mean time if I could help, I will.

Sounds like Oracle will provide Microsoft with a safe haven for a few months and when he/she leaves for Google, they can work on helping Oracle move to Google 🙂

@bow how Haha I am not expecting anything in return. I myself am switching to FB/Amazon in two weeks. I am doing this to help a fellow engineer. I know how hard situations can be.

If you don’t like frontend, can you switch teams to a backend role?

Nope since I have insufficient results, I can not switch teams. My team doesn't have any back-end work.

I hate it when this happens. I see new hires with zero frontend experience being given projects with little to no training. Some people figure it out, but most people need guidance.

Maybe mention in ur post. Way faster to have local interviews scheduled than far off.

U need to find a job in a month right?
