Just curious as to what is the equivalent base salary in Seattle to 124k base in San Jose from cost of living perspective. This is for a finance job at Amazon. So Seattle is cheaper? I was told it is as expensive as the Bay Area. I had a first phone interview and told Amazon that I need a base of 140k. Recruiter had to go back to hiring manager to up the hiring base and today she reached out to ask for a second interview. This makes me believe that they have upped the scale to 140k. Is that a fair assessment?
You're getting underpaid in both locations.
For a corporate finance job?

Cost of living is going up quickly however it is still about 40% cheaper than San Francisco
It's noticeably cheaper and there's no state income tax. 140k will be very comfortable in Seattle, even without RSUs on top of that.
This is the best, easiest tool for exactly what you are asking. http://www.bestplaces.net/cost-of-living/
this pretty cool
"A salary of $60,000 in Buffalo, New York should increase to $195,412 in San Francisco, California" somehow i doubt they'll pay me almost 200k when i only have 3yrs experience
Seattle is cheaper yes. rent is much cheaper so is real estate. no state tax. 124 in sj is like 90-100 in Seattle
Amazon is notorious for offering a high base + signing bonus and then not giving you any raises or bonuses ever. I'd demand a premium from Amazon because that's what you're going to be stuck making for the next 4 years.
-15% from your salary from Bay.
Bay area for daily things costs about 10% more. Housing is about 30-40% greater. I'd say 25% more for cost of living in San Jose seems apt after taxes.
Also keep in mind California has high state income tax and Washington has none.
140k in Seattle is BALLING
Probably like 90k tbh
