I want to learn how to box and possibly compete in amateur boxing tournaments in a few years if I get good enough. There’s a lot of gyms here that treat boxing as a fun fitness workout and I’m not interested in that, would like serious training sessions. There’s a few places that look interesting like The Contenders Gym and Relentless Boxing but I’d like to see what people here recommend.
Go train in Oakland it worked for Adonis Creed...seriously though I agree with the dude above. Boxing is a sport for those with nothing to lose and they will fucking murder you if they get a whiff of your status. Some people would probably literally punch way harder than they should to put you in your place. I am basing this off of getting off early for the 4th, 2 beers and being a Rocky fanatic...I own the whole fucking series on Laserdisc, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and 4K lol so take that with a grain of salt. I just feel like a serious trainer isn’t going to take you seriously or just fluff you up for money. Boxers start young in hard scrabble surroundings worldwide.
I’m confused. Who’s going to punch me based on my status? The people I’m sparring with the gym? It’s not like I’m gonna walk around the streets telling everyone I’m a boxer.
Serious boxers are not rich or well educated your sparring partners will kick your ass.
Amazon fullfiment centers. Along with boxing, u get taping, filling and forklifting.
Try Peninsula Boxing in Redwood City. The coach is very good and technical, and the gym is registered with USA Boxing. https://yelp.to/qTKq/dh097wmw2X
East Palo Alto.
Why? If you are a software engineer (like most people on blind) your head is your meal ticket and will be the prime target for anyone you spar with. You might consider doing BJJ or something without so many head shots...
To learn self defense and because it’s fun. I used to do martial arts and recreational backyard boxing so I’m not exactly afraid to get hit. I doubt all the other software engineers at the gym are killers who’ll put me in the hospital lmao
