I reported somebody for sexual harassment. In the process of investigation, I have been fighting a lot with HR as they seem to be being on the harasser's side (that guy is in high up management). Does this impact my future career negatively if I quit this company and move to another one?
Hi there, I’ve been through this- I reported a senior manager. HR we’re really nice to me but did nothing concrete to help me. I lost my job, and the guy is untouched. No discipline, no consequences. They kept it all very quiet. So in my experience, it’s the victim whose career is destroyed not the perpetrator.
That is typical. The company protects the abuser because they worry about being sued. It is sort of darkly amusing when these guys freak out about how it ruins the abuser’s career when more often it ruins the accuser’s career. So unfair.
I have repeatedly witnessed HR protect senior employees who they deem as more "valuable". I am an experienced labor attorney who is passionate about fighting injustices in the workplace. If your termination was less than a year ago, then you may still have rights against your former employer. If you would like to have a confidential and privileged chat, please let me know and I can schedule a free consultation.
Having been there... I’d suggest getting legal advice now, and reporting to police if it’s criminal.
Absolutely not. They can’t disclose this to anyone. But make sure no one in the department hears about this other than hr and manager in question. Pursue it till the end, don’t give up. Severity is not important, don’t let them downgrade the complaint. They will have to do their due diligence, if there is any person who could vouch for the harassment, you need to name them to HR. Keep everything in writing.
Op, what was the alleged sexual harassment?
Specific contents might identify me, so I won't disclose that
Agreed mysteriously you will be pulled aside by management and your credibility will be questioned or they will get you on frivolous expenses! Keep the fight up and take down these bastards! Post in public forums and join the class action!
So sorry this happened to you. HR is not your friend. They are a rumor mill who represent management interests. Talk to outside attorney. There is value in what you did. It shows you made an effort to remedy your situation. Now the company or possibly only the manager will scramble to get you fired for some BS reason. That is called retaliation and will get them into a lot of trouble. Your attorney would have a field day with them and get you a big settlement.
Because of potential retaliation suit, I think it is very unlikely that they will try to fire me. They will do the opposite. Not doing anything to both me and the haraaser, which puts me in a much difficult situation, since harasser has much more power...
If the harrassment doesn't stop, you just going to leave?
This happened to a number of women at my company. They excused it with drinking. HR is not your friend. I’m sorry you have to leave a company because this happened to you.
What they will most likely do is ignore your complaints, and hope that you just leave the company and go away. Regardless, that will be known as constructive dismissal, and you could still sue. Google what happened in the better works case. I think the plaintiff got a $1 million settlement. You definitely want to get an experienced attorney, make sure that their contingency fee isn’t too high, meaning it should not exceed 25% of the overall proceeds. Also know that with the new tax law, there could be tax implications for your settlement, so you want an experienced tax lawyer working with your attorney as you get closer to a settlement

Your expect them to take an action just in your report. Of course, they will enquire. This is going to ruim they guys career all together
The reporter shouldn't be discouraged from reporting because it can hurt the guys career. That mentality would encourage sexual harrassment.
You think about yourself, I Sam telling they will think about both. The question is not correct to report or not. The question is how fast they want to take and how correct the info is
