I started looking for a job and do not need visa sponsorship 😊. It seems that lot of people with work visa are having issues tranferring from one company to another thanks to USCIS’ RFEs/rejections. Are companies getting desperate enough to pay higher TC to those who don’t need to deal with that uncertainty (e.g permanent residents and citizens)?
Yes, very likely true.
Supply - demand ! In short term, absolutely you would be more paid. In long term, companies are desperate to get best talent not any talent readily available. What will happen is similar to other industries, tech companies would build massive campuses in Canada, Germany and other countries like India / Chile to employ highly skilled employees and build best in class products. Realize this - tech is less constrained by the geographical location except for initial product validation and customer feedback.
duh! my post is very short term thinking... we’ll be with a new administration by the time companies want to go out and invest in foreign countries
Probably won't increase tc but increases your chances of getting an offer. A lot of companies don't even sponsor these days
You’re mistaken. They’ll likely ship the job overseas.
Right. And a few of them are already moving it to Canada to stay close. But OPs point, I think there should be a change in his favor at least in short term.
I agree with OP that there should be some difference but no one is going to say it explicitly
It worked!!!! Got 20k bump from original offer (cash bonus after 1 year). I just had to tell recruiter to bump my TC because I have no visa issues and that I’m still waiting on other offers to come thru.
Good for you man ! Where are you joining ?
I like you op! You seem to understand and play capitalism well. Since you're in a better position to bargain and take advantage of it. I'm sure you're the kind of person who would not come crying to Blind when the company decides to optimize for cost and outsource the work when it can, either overseas or to a H1B. After all, as you demonstrated, citizens require higher pay than visa holders.
that’s a problem for future me. After all, TC or GTFO right?
No. Not yet.
if not now, then when?
Once h1 is completely blocked.
