Two weeks ago I signed an offer letter with a tech consulting firm with a prospective start date of September 30. At the time they had not checked my references or performed a background check. With still a month before the start date, I decided to wait until they had finished all their checks before notifying my company that I planned to leave. Well, my references are saying they still haven't been contacted and I'm running up on two weeks before my last day. What would you do in this situation? Is it common for reference checks to be treated like a formality that just need to be completed sometime before the start date? I'm not sure if this is normal practice that I should just accept or if I should be concerned.
Red flag of the poor way company is run. If they cannot have background check in many days, just imagine other more important things?
Last job I had they never checked references or did a background check. I think they forgot. It wasn’t unity
Background checks can take a while. Just tell the new company you need to allow for two full weeks notice after they’ve confirmed your start date and have passed all other qualifying checks.
