Should I give up CS?

I can’t make it past the phone interview of any prestigious company. I’ve failed 15+ phone interviews multiple times despite studying. All I want in the world is to make it to Facebook/Google/Snapchat but I’m so fucking shitty I can’t do these algo problems. I’ve spent $240000 for a ducking degree but im not a genius I can’t fathom how brilliant these engineers are that are able to manipulate these problems in their head, Is there a reason to continue CS? Is there even a reason to live?

Idk what studying you do, but go to mock interviews instead of studying - that would help.

Pramp is great.

Tried it once, YMMV.

I have a BA in a humanities discipline and am a L5 SWE. sorry about your debt.

Microsoft 5’6 Indian OP Mar 14, 2018

It’s not about that. It’s the fact that despite all of this I have such inferior genes I’ll never be able to have what everyone else gets easily

Google rhGtYVj Mar 14, 2018

Ohhhhhh. Ok fuck you.

Maybe if you shit post less on Blind you'd be able to get a job.

Microsoft 5’6 Indian OP Mar 14, 2018

The amount of shitposting has no effect on my ability to do well in interviews

Yahoo xkcd Mar 14, 2018

Sorry mate. On the contrary, it does!

Amazon BadassSDE Mar 14, 2018

Why haven’t you succeed? If you just say “I’m shitty”, then you probably didn’t try to really answer the question. First, understand what you’re lacking.

Microsoft 5’6 Indian OP Mar 14, 2018

I’m lacking intelligence. I’ve pondered this for years and I’ve realized I’m not smart. I thought that because I’m ugly and short the universe would have granted one advantage to me but as it turns out I’m just ugly and short and stupid. When I see these problems my brain doesn’t manipulate them like others do. My problem isn’t the actual algorithms, it’s problem solving. Like, if someone said “pair every sock in this pile of socks”, then the problem solving clue is that you have to sort the socks. Now that’s a trivial example, but my brain wouldn’t be able to determine that you’re supposed to sort the socks.

Microsoft AmlEval Mar 14, 2018

Maybe you really should get a job sorting socks! Good idea, OP!

Don’t get disheartened. There is more to life than getting into a prestigious company. Try for smaller startups. They have less rigorous interviews. Once you get your foot into the door move away from hardcore software engineering. Move into something like product management. If you are not a great engineer that just means you need to find what other related job is a better fit for you. Also a secret that most people who have worked In the industry for a while know. Your interview performance is not very indicative of your on job performance.

Microsoft 5’6 Indian OP Mar 14, 2018

I don’t want to be pm, I want to be an sde. It’s not about being in the companies. It’s about being an sde in the companies. But if I can’t be an sde there I don’t see a point to even living

Twitch whatitdo Mar 14, 2018

Top 25% of humans by classical intelligence do not range that widely, your methodology is fucking your applied intelligence output, try other ways of preparing.

Microsoft 5’6 Indian OP Mar 14, 2018

We’re talking about top 2%. People at those companies are geniuses. They probably have way more glial cells than the average human

Twitch whatitdo Mar 14, 2018

If you feel that way, quit and do something else you can be successful at. But whatever it is, will you give up too if there are top 2% people to compete with?

Why not play to your strengths? Why suffer to do something you’re not naturally inclined to do? You’ll be happier and ultimately paid more to do something you enjoy.

Microsoft 5’6 Indian OP Mar 14, 2018

I don’t have strengths. Also this is the only thing I want to do. I don’t see a point to living if I’m unable to do this.
