Should I join OCI?

I recently received my written offer from OCI after a 3 month wait and I was excited about joining Oracle soon. However, I heard about their recent layoffs which is making me reconsider.
I had another offer which I now kind of regret having turned down a couple of months ago and to be honest, I feel I have outgrown where I currently work and it just isn’t appealing anymore. Also, I’m on H1B, so wondering if it is worth the risk to join OCI at the moment. Any genuine advise would be appreciated.

Anybody who is saying it is fat trimming, they are pure morons with no insight about oracle. Top performers/Ex-Googlers/Phds from top institute were fired. It is lame reckless hiring and firing!

Oracle has a tendency either to RIF great talent, or just totally misuse them, while promoting utter morons. Strange company.

What Ex Google executives were let go? I would welcome them back to Google Cloud. I am not aware of any to date. Only OCI-C legacy execs from acquisitions were let go, not recent Google executive hires.

Probably not exec-level people, probably a lot of strong ICs and the like.

I wouldn't join if I were you... the all hands on Friday was shit show and all the questions by employees left were dodged. I am still here and looking. Most ppl I know that are left are looking to move out.

I reccomend to not join Oracle. There will be more layoffs, lots more.

Many H1B Visa holders were let go, and now they are scrambling to find work. There is no grace period and Oracle, despite their promises, is not doing all they can to place anyone let go.

Still looking for credible sources. I know people have to be anonymous here but will I hope all the posters claiming upcoming layoffs don't use each other as source.

Absolutely guaranteed that everyone here is using each other as source, and of course there's likely to be at least a few recently laid off people here stoking the fears. Don't trust what you read here, reach out to people in your network that are already at OCI, aim for input from ic's not management folk.

I'd be cautious if I were you. I wasn't feeling awful on the day of layoffs but the all hands on the next day kinda scared me. I'd be definitely actively looking now even though I was only passively looking before.

Doesn't make sense. If they were truly cutting fat then they would give people an option to change team. Everyone I know was asked to leave the same day some of whom had even promo doc ready and other teams were ready to take them on the spot. But that wasn't even an option.

Nobody can tell you for sure we will not have more layoffs. Now having said that depending the team you are applying to, we can tell you if it is safer or not. Send me a pm with your team / product and I'll try to advise you.

The fat cutting sounds awfully familiar. Initially, they make it sound like just the low performers are getting affected. Then, give a few months and 75% of your colleagues are gone.

Don’t go to Oracle. The recent layoffs trimmed some “duplicative teams” but there were strong people caught in it, too. Leadership at OCI is not transparent and the opposite of inspiring, and you’ll find that to be the case with many leaders throughout Oracle as a whole.

Ultimately that’s what did it for me with Oracle—lie after lie after omission after distortion. Got to the point that I could trust anyone, and I get the sense plenty of others feel similarly.

I work in OCI. My good people were let go. Few people are struggling since there’s just two months left to find a job, start h1 transfer and other stuff.

I’m on H1, wasn’t impacted by layoffs, but I’ve already started preparing. If you’re on H1, please don’t risk it.

@tevo there's another one coming in September, and newly joined is not immune to it. I know of a brown friend who was in the middle of wedding in India and got laid off. To make matter worse, he is on H1 Visa.

OP, what is your designation at OCI? Is it Principal MTS?
    Mar 24 14

      OP
MTS is member of technical staff. The position I was planning on joining is Senior Member of Technical staff, it is equivalent to Senior Software Engineer.
@ItsAlrite- I have just 1 year and 3 months left on my h1b and I would need immediate perm filing on joining to stay beyond this period, so not many companies would be open to considering me at this time.
      Mar 24

Will ATT file? Filing perm is basic stuff. Sorry it didn't get filed until now for you.

Since they had a layoff just now, I'm not sure if they can file perm now. So better you stick to a place where your perm will be filed.
