I'm currently L5 SDE at amazon. I've been there for almost 2 years. After 1y4m I transitioned to management because my manager left. I'm doing well as a manager and might reach L6 within 1 or 1.5 years and then I can transition to SDE3. I have an offer from Google for L3 (equivalent to SDE1) Engineer. The TC is higher than amazon. Should I go? It's a downgrade in terms of progression, but I've always wanted to go to google. I think I'm going to transition back to SDE anyway, but I will be delayed a lot in google since I'll start over from SDE1.
Depends how much you care about career progression vs a shiny badge on your LinkedIn.
It's not worth it.
Lol. What's the TC offered? Google ain't special as of 2019. It is just another msft. Recent Amzn L5 TCs are like 250-270k in Seattle.
Any particular reason for googles demise ?
Reading news and blind posts, late into cloud platform, ads share eaten by facebook, bulk hiring with downlevel & low TC. Google earnings reports showing same revenue, high operating costs, & loosing marketshare smartphone business & ads. Google search & maps are still the strongest product with no competition.
No. Why would you?
I’d stay. Getting senior sde in 3 years is amazing
Ehhh...every L5 SDE is supposedly "1 to 1.5 years away from L6" here. That's the proverbial carrot they're all chasing.
No, if you can reach L6 in 1 year
Lol
Yes
You're willing to give up Senior Eng at Amazon for level 1 eng at Google? Lol what
I know right. When balancing the two options, why would you go to SDE I? If your desire is to work at Google, it seems that on the current path you are building up more accomplishments to enter much higher later on.
Do it
