Should I move to SF and commute to MTV?

Currently in my mid 20s and living in SJ but it’s so boring and I don’t have many friends here. I want to improve my social/dating life as most of my friends are in SF. My company is next to MTV Caltrain and also has an SF office but all activities are in HQ. If I live in SF, I’ll be commuting down to MTV 4 days a week + work from SF on Fri. I’m a huge bookworm so I think I can put up with 1-hour long Caltrain ride reading books. I’m paying 1k5 rn for a really nice master bedroom with private bath. Looking at Craiglist, I think I’ll have to pay in the range of 1k9-2k3 for a similar standard of living AND live close to Caltrain. Should I make this move or not?

I’ll say this, if it’s about your happiness, do it. You’ll never regret it! The last thing you want is to be lonely.

It’s not that bad. Way worth it over San Jose social life. Don’t commute up as you’ll find that you’ll socialize less often You are young do the commute for 6-12 months

Why not just commute to the city to hang out?

Because he can’t take someone home with him.

Do it in the backseat like many a generations before us.

I’d stay in SJ and visit SF on the weekends. Go hangout with your co-workers and share your TCs

I'd say move to SF. It's not like SJ-MTV is much better than SF-MTV.

Do it. It would suck to live in SJ as a mid-20s single person. I would look for full time work in SF after making the move, personally. Another option to look at is relocating to NYC, LA, or Austin.

You should move to SF.

I’m doing the reverse commute from Sunnyvale to SF. 1.5 hour commute one way if I take the bullet Caltrain and time it right to get on Muni, otherwise it’s a 2 hour commute. I take the 7 AM train and don’t get home until 7:30-8 PM. Eat dinner, watch some TV, then head to bed by 11. The commute will drain the life out of you and you won’t have any free time after work, so it’s highly doubtful you’ll have the energy or desire to hang out with anyone after work. Don’t do it.

^^ This. Unless you can find a job in SF, I wouldn’t recommend to move
