Hi Everyone, I recently received two offers from Google and Uber, and need your opinion for the following: 1) Which one do you recommend? 2) Is there a room of improvement about comp? Should I push for more? Compensation is Base / Bonus / RSU per year G: L5 -> 180k / 27k / 160k (TC: 367K) U: L5 -> 180K / 27k / 160k (TC: 367K) (well, they basically matched each others offer :) ) As usual, current TC: 300K, YOE: 10 (8 of it is out of country)
Mind sharing how the interviews were for L5? Is it more about coding or system design?
What's your YOE?
No brainer! Uber stock is shit and everybody will sell in a couple of months!
Are you E5 at FB?
Yes I am.
Why is your FB TC low? I saw TCs ~370k on blind for E5. Are you leaving because of WLB?
Doubt Google will go above 640K rsu for L5... but Uber will. I saw 720k rsu offer in blind yest..
Thanks for the insight. I am going to try to get some signing bonus, and will decide shortly afterwards.
Can you give an idea of the type of sysdesign/coding qs asked? What's your edication background and domain area?
I have BS Computer Engineering, and have product development experience mostly. I forgot the questions but they were very similar to leetcode - cracking the coding interview examples
Congrats! Both nice companies and a good offer! I personally would decide based on team and location. I think Uber will generally be more interesting work, but depending on the team at G you might get lucky there too. Note the office and perks of U are worse than G, especially the food sucks at U.
I'd value all the perks of Google over Uber as $10K per year, does that sound right? Google position is more engineering, Uber position is more product. I guess you are right about the criteria :)
I've actually never worked at G or U myself but have a few friends there and been a few times on the site for lunching (and U lunch was surprisingly shitty lol). I can't put a specific $ value on the perks, but even if it's 10k this small difference wouldn't be a large deciding factor. For me it would be mostly about how interesting the work / team is and the commute 😉
Take Uber. More impact.
That's a solid L5 offer for Google, could be higher but since the competing offer is matched, doubt they will budge. Also congrats, nice offers from good companies 👌
Thank you very much. I also believe it is a solid offer, and planning to ask some sort of signing bonus then go for it :)
