Should I quit my Amazon job to find a new job?

TC 180 I work for Alexa team in Amazon - Bay area. Every single person in my team works till 7.30pm(they come in at 9.30) half my team is present till 9pm on daily basis. i feel extreemly hungry every evening, but company provides no food. People who are taking the day off still reply for emails at 2am in morning. Teammates send out code reviews on Saturdays and Sundays. This is very common. I feel extreemely awkward to leave at 6pm in evening. I am trying to find a new job. But weekend is the only time i can prepare anything for few hours, then weekdays kick in and i go out of touch again for next 5 days. should i quit this position to actually save my life and find a job? or am i overreacting? i really wish one day to walkin and just quit my job and cite “poor work life harmony” as the reason. all the times are totally true. Observed for more than 1.5 years. i’ve been on this team for 2.5 years now.

If you are unhappy there, then something needs to change! Maybe another team within the company is better WLB? If not, you could bring it up with your leads. Although, if it's not looking good, just keep the job and apply elsewhere!

Amazon is one of the biggest companies out there. You can easily move internally if you're unhappy at Alexa. That's probably better than just quitting with nothing lined up, unless you don't give a fuck about having an income. Then you can still pursue external opportunities if you really want to.

Hard to decipher this post without TC

How has been your growth there? And how are the learnings while working on the team?

I learned a lot in my tenure here. Cannot complain about that. Teammates are extremely talented and hard working still learning from them. But is this sustainable for long term? I don’t think so.

As far as growing and learning, it should be fine. Take care of your health. The issue with switch is wlb is not guaranteed after the switch. Also you might miss the growth and learnings from there. If manager, growth, learnings, money are fine, then don't switch just for wlb. Try planning your work properly, reduce a few responsibilities, talk to your manager that you are getting burned out and would take a little light work for a quarter or two. Also ask people to reserve your time, cut down on ad-hoc help requests, request for no after-work hour or weekend work mails. Try to set an expectation that you'll only in office hours and after-office hours only if urgent. ( Though not good, 9 am to 9 pm is quite normal in India. )

Keep doing LC in weekend and interview around. It's risky to quit without having another offer

Use the free LinkedIn promo and get the “seeking jobs” badge and recruiters should come out of the woodwork to hire you

Barclays PLC sscL38 Aug 15, 2019

What is this "seeking jobs" badge thing ? Do you need to earn it ?

Team change. Then job prep. Otherwise, just take fmla.

TC or GTFO. You know the rules. It gives more context to the question.

Done

Yes you should quit after you get a new job with at least the same TC but hopefully higher. Why would anyone work until 7.30 especially in tech? literally made no sense. Everyone knows amazon has poor WLB.

Curious on how this culture can even exist? Do they all not have kids or their spouses sign up to pick up kids from the day care? Most day cares close at 6.
