Should I start working?

my parents want me to stay home as long as possible (they’re not sick or anything, we just get along well) before I go to work. So far (graduated about a year ago) i’ve been really enjoying it. As soon as I graduated I interviewed at two companies (Adobe and a startup) and got offers from both (TC 140k and 100k+”70k” respectively) which I turned down to stay home and do whatever I wanted. I had also made it to the onsite round with google by this point but told them I changed my mind about looking for work. If it’s true that google lets new grads hold onto an offer for up to a year though then I should consider getting back to them. I’m 24 y/o, and my parents are wealthy enough and more than happy to (for now, at least) sustain me indefinitely at a pretty high standard of living. What I would get from working is my own place (rather than just my own room), more peers, and I could buy my own car (no room at my parents’ house for an extra car). I could also call myself financially independent, but most of my friends wouldn’t really care and most have already told me I’m really lucky to have this opportunity to not work. I suppose there are also cool, big, scalable projects I could work on only if I worked at one of the tech giants, but I don’t know how lucky you have to be to find a team/work you really enjoy, so I don’t wanna count on that. Is anybody else who was in a similar situation grateful they started working even though they didn’t have to? Any regrets? I’ve been thinking about reconsidering my options once I turn 26 since then my parents’ benefits (healthcare) will stop covering me, but perhaps I should start sooner? TC: 0

Go back to school for another degree like a MS or PhD.

I would never ever recommend taking a break at this age. This is the age where u have the maximum learning curve. No matter whatever field u want to take up. Dont take a break. It will break your continuity and make it tougher to get back on track. Taking a break later on in life is better

Get your own money. You never know what'll happen if you don't have your own methods to support yourself.

I have about 100k saved away (in FAANG stocks actually) from my past internships. Having a job offer on hand that I could wait on for a while (like google for 1yr) would be a lot better though.

You only live once, but at the same time. You should be a little less selfish and reduce burden on parents. You are fully capable of supporting yourself or at least contributing to household expenses. But yes to answer your other question. I have 2 year contract to return back to FAANG after I finish school. I know google does 1 year for interns from a friend.

If I felt I was becoming a burden to my parents it would be a different story altogether (and things may change), but when I had those offers on hand they insisted I should turn it down and not be in such a “hurry” to enter the workforce. Does Google do 1 year only for returning interns?

It sounds like you need to read the book “The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter--And How to Make the Most of Them Now”
