Should I switch jobs now?

Hi! Im a UX designer with 4+ years exp. Im being head hunted by a company that im really interested in working with, theyre a biotech company/startup. It seems like an awesome environment with hopefull better pay, but I've only been at my current company for 6 mos. and dont want to always be a job hopper. My current company is high pressure, they're losing revenue, and have limited dev power. They laid off 4 employees within the first two months of being there which scared the shit out of me and left me with a bunch of loose ends from my PM who also was let go. But even with saying that, I'd be happy working there for another year probably. Im currently making 88k, In the new role I'll only be willing to accept at 100k which from talking with the hiring manager seems like theyre willing to go for that amount. The biotech company also let me know that they want to sell in 2-3years which is fine with me because id like to be able to move to a senior position in 2-3 years anyways. another concern is that the new job will be an hour commute each way, but Id only have to go in 10-3 and have a WFH day. Im very confused so if anyone has advice or opinions lmk TLDR: Considering new job with a better industry, probably better pay, hopefully better people, worse commute (1hr at least) Current company is struggling with revenue but has a 45 min commute, and I've only been there 6 mos. I dont want to be a job hopper but I dont want to miss out either

Your current job sounds like it's going downhill anyway... Here's the deal, if you were offered both jobs right now, which one would you take? Hopping once because you found a great opportunity and wanted to move away from a company you didn't know was dying until you'd started? That's not a big deal, especially if you're fairly confident you'll be at the new place for over two years. As a hiring manager I'd probably ask you about it but I certainty wouldn't blackball you over that sort of thing.

Thanks when you phrase it like that it's an obvious choice for me. I've held shorter contract positions so I'm used to those types of questions too. Thanks!

It doesn't matter, switch if you like the other place, happiness > everything. Besides, I don't think anyone really cares about "job hopping" nowadays

Yeah good to know. I'm pretty content where I'm at and cant say I'm 100% sure I'll be happier at the new spot. I think it'd help my career out though
