Should I take Promotion or take the opportunity of better role?

Got offer from another company for a different high visibility role. when told manager he said If I stay he would try to promote me in coming months. The role in the new company is great opportunity. Pay is the almost the same as of now but will have a great career prospects. They said this is the highest they can offer, i do like the role they are offering. The new role offers a lot of visibility for sure. I do see definitely a path to become manager if I stayed in my current role as I own the stuff what I work on and nobody else really knows it. I do see a potential promotion for sure. In the new company, everyone else in the team has been doing the role for a long time and I will be basically coming as a new guy trying to settle in. I am so confused ๐Ÿ˜ Should I take Promotion or move to a better role?

Take it. A bird in hand is better than two in the bush

Take it. Always good to try something different which you also like.

Take the new offer. Unless current company gav immediate counter offer there is no reason to stay. That vague promise to promote later is standard management tactic to get you to stay without actually offering you anything in return.

Itโ€™s understandable to feel worried about a new situation, but if you do what youโ€™re capable of, youโ€™ll build up your reputation again quickly. Also, as the new person coming in, youโ€™ll have a lot of fresh perspective to offer. There was a reason you were starting to interview in the first place. Take the offer.

Stay in the current role, get the promotion add then leave. Unless the new role puts the path to promotion in writing, it's a may-be, at best. What happens if the hiring manager leaves after you join or the high visibility project gets shelved? Very simply, the money is almost the same and its a may-be on promotion. Do you think this deserves a company change?

Right but neither My current manager have given me in writing that he would promote me, its all verbal based on my performance

Agree. However, you have a personal relationship with your manager and you know your current role / team well. You have none of that with your new role. Namely, your ability to influence and a path to promotion, is significantly higher at your old role vs. new.

More visibility means a lot more work. If they canโ€™t afford to pay more, you should really believe they are going to make it big and soon for it to be worth it. Else, take the promotion deal and keep interviewing to find a better role.

High visibility = Lots of work + stress. no doubt there will be good learning opportunities. You'll have to put in a lot of extra hours the initial few months to prove yourself.... all that being said... below are the questions you should be asking yourself 1. what are the career prospects in the new company? 2. when's the review cycle in the new company? pretty sure they won't promote you before then. 3. how well can you trust your current manager? 4. are you absolutely sure you want to change jobs with the same pay? have you confirmed that's the best the new company can offer... like through glassdoor/current employees or maybe ask here at blind.

Take the offer. Thank your boss profusely and promise to call him if you decide that you want to return. Do everything you can to make your departure less painful. Staying is rarely a good idea. What happens when you still donโ€™t get a promo in 6 months?

he may be saying so you stay until he find a replacement then fire you. you said already you could leave at any moment if an offer comes

So youโ€™re saying I should take the new opportunity?
