I am currently interviewing with FB for a contract position and their hourly rate is much higher than my current position. However, the team here at Uber is converting me to full time. It isn’t a guarantee that FB will offer a full time position after the contract ends, but if they do, I’m sure the compensation will be much higher. I also know Uber is going IPO soon. Is it a bad career move to take on a contract position with FB at this point?
Wouldn’t your full time comp at Uber be higher than contract comp at Fb?
I’m not sure yet! I’m unsure what the new comp would be
Uber conversion
Definitely convert when you have the opportunity. You could be waiting years at fb if at all.
Fb is better to their contractors, they’ve been doing it longer and know how to better support their people. looking at your comp as a holistic package for FT vs hourly as a Contractor is what you need to analyze. I.e. do u get over time? Will portions of ur benefits be covered as a contractor? Might you want RSUs which are offered to FT employees? Commute is another factor. That shuttle ride from city eats at your soul... Overall, having Uber and FB on ur resume isnt a bad career move. Lol (what reality do we live in where it could be “bad”? Friggin Silicon Valley bs) Uber will take awhile to ipo. But if u want equity (RSUs) then go with whomever will give u a FT position.
Isn’t the IPO this year?
Yeah a big reason why I’m even considering fb is because it is much closer to where I live. The commute is such a pain. IPO should be approved this year though, so tho ha are looking up. The thing is, I know nothing about how much to expect from the IPO..Thanks for your perspective though!
what role is this
Go for Facebook
Convert to Uber, get options, wait for IPO, make yourself rich then join Facebook if it's still around (may not be)
Uhhh - ok Wells Fargo LOL. You guys gone yet?
Lol solid plan
Are you working as an independant contractor ? Or through a vendor?
Through a vendor
May I know your hourly rate?
May I know the vendor name? I am looking for a new role too
Go full time, being a contractor anywhere is like being a second-class citizen
