E4. Won’t share exact numbers because they seem to be atypical and maybe even out-of-band (and could therefore out me), but they’re very close to 170/400/100 (base/RSU/signing) + standard bonuses and refreshers for that level. Let’s call it an even ~300k factoring in the signing bonus (amortized over 4 years) to start. I have a choice of offices: SEA/MPK/NYC. Are there any notable differences between the work cultures in these offices (I’m well aware of the differences between the cities themselves; no need to cover that here)? Also have a few other offers, the most interesting of which is actually an Amazon transfer...pretty amazing (potentially) project. I’m tracking for ~230-240k this year, but it will gradually decline to ~185k in 2021 (somewhere in-between next year) unless I get another TT rating, a dive-and-save adjustment, or a promo. Absolute best case by 2020 and beyond would be an L6 promo (~250k). Please note: I'm not strictly interested in TC alone or this post and poll would obviously be pointless. More curious about the intangibles and growth potential. L5 SDE; ~4.5 YoE, most of it at Amazon.
Yeah those offices are very different. Team selection greatest at MPK, second SEA, lowest NYC. I work at MPK, but the vibe at NYC is pretty awesome. SEA is very chill. MPK is... overcrowded, but being at the center of the universe is best career wise. IG in NYC is pretty awesome, center of the universe for IG with the more... friendly? atmosphere.
NYC if you're young and want to live your time of your life. Facebook offers same amount of money at all locations, so choosing NYC isn't too bad. Go enjoy life.
Honest question, is there time to enjoy life w/ workload? I am the same as OP and deciding between FB and others.
I'm curious, wouldn't the tax rate in SEA (I'm assuming the Singapore office) be much lower? So could your post tax take home be higher than compared to working in MPK or NYC?
SEA= Seattle
Taxes and cost of living are both significantly lower in Seattle than the other two.
What's with these companies giving same offer for bay area and seattle
Keep interviewing, you could do so much better
Such as? I'm looking for personal growth and a low-drag, high autonomy engineering culture right now. Did the startup thing before Amazon briefly and wouldn't do it again unless I was close to the founders (or one of them). Really liked my first three years at Amazon (greenfield project). I'm not in love with the company or the top-level product/industry, but it seems to check most of the other boxes.
Pinterest could do such better. Definitely better culture. Otherwise, do pre-ipo like slack, stripe etc., there is a reason these companies pay more equity - More riskier. Considering how Facebook did recently you can give these companies a try
Wow 100k sign on for E4, is that normal at FB?
Not normal, no. Search around and you'll see that there are other (presumably baseline) E4 offers mentioned on Blind without signing bonuses; median offer will have one, but it'll typically be around 30k. Worth noting that I was borderline E5 and had a couple competing offers.
You will probably make fb e5 relatively quickly and tc will go up even more
